Asphalt Art Project
Celebrating What Make Us Unique

We are a diverse city made up of diverse neighborhoods which is what makes us Who. We. Are. This is reflected in the pride we have in ourselves and in each other’s self-expression and the collective acceptance for our differences.

To celebrate what makes us unique and the pride we have in it, we are decorating the sidewalks, intersections and surrounding areas between Mags 940 and The Phoenix Bar. It is intended to be a reflection of the tapestry of people that make up this great city and a celebration of the things that make each of us unique.

To start, we have enlisted the help of Jeremy Novy to stencil Koi, orange, black and white with rainbow markings, circling and floating in the street to create a sense of space and place. But since we are a diverse neighborhood, we need to show our local diversity by including other fish that are native to us and the other places where people come from which make up the melting pot of New Orleans. This will be a yearly community project to gather, maintain and add to the mural and celebrate our diversity.

With all these fish in one spot, what should we call it? The "Fish Bowl"? The "Fish Pond"? Or what name do you think makes sense? Let us know what you think info@theFMIA.org.

Be A Part of Something Beautiful

How?

Participate. Spread the Word. Donate. Help Raise Money. Or be on the committee.

Help make this a reality.

All monies collected for this project go towards its completion. Any excess monies are restricted to our beautification fund for other beautification projects.

Imagine What It Could Be!

Areas shaded in blue/grey are potential areas for asphalt art

The city has allowed us to paint in all the blue shaded areas. This project is not a one-time event. It is a community project that we will visit every year to maintain and add to. What should be next? Come, join us. And be part of something beautiful.
